Workshop "Chances and Potentials for Medium Scale Solarthermal Power Using Combined Heating, Cooling and Power"
In the workshop, an overview of possible applications for concentrating collectors in projects with much lower budgets than typical solar thermal power plants had been given. A range of 20 kWel to about 2MWel is considered as medium scale. Although the downscaling of project size normally leads to higher costs, other aspects may compensate this disadvantage. One of the factors lowering costs is production of standardized components in larger series, the other is the combination of solar power production with process heat and thermal cooling processes. Based on experiences from pilot studies and a potential study recently completed the chances and potentials of solar thermal power combined with process heat or cooling applications have been presented and discussed.
